Dame Antonia Byatt, Martin Swales and Godela Weiss-Sussex will explore the connections between English and German culture in her recent work. The conversation will focus on the novel The Children’s Book (2009), and its rich interplay of social experience, the psychological currents and counter-currents of family life, and the role of ideas and cultural values in human affairs. In its depiction of the early 20th century, the novel conjures up a world of artistic and social possibilities, interweaving English and German cultural life.
