This clip shows a classic situation where one culture (French in this case) looks to connect on a personable level in order to enhance the business relationship whilst the other culture in this case German) seeks to focus exclusively on the facts and tasks at hand. Both are bruised by the encounter and will think of the other party as either ‘a timewaster’ or as ‘unfriendly’. With cross cultural training both their meetings and their business relationship could be improved and add to the bottom line – we like to business with people we like – it is that simple.
